Manufacturing Technician Specialists provide line engineering and product support for assigned product families by performing advanced specialized technical functions involving analyzing, improving, installing, operating and/or solving problems concerning complex production processes, equipment and new product introduction. May apply specialized knowledge of engineering systems, tooling, molds and quality testing to troubleshoot and problem solve product, process and quality of product while reducing rejection rates, material costs and customer complaints.

  • May work with a variety of raw materials, grains, powders, bonding agents, chemicals, or resin products for the purpose of material testing, product and process testing for cost savings and new materials.

  • May work with molds and mold equipment made from ceramics, steel, aluminum or other metal material.

  • Making sample products in order to perform material tests, property tests, shop floor process audits.

  • Prepares and operates extensive and complex laboratory and/or mechanical and computer-related equipment according to established guidelines to conduct experimental programs relating to production processes and equipment.-

  • Will use calipers, micrometers, height gages, ring gages, computer systems, software products to test and document blueprints and product specifications.

  • May perform complex molding, pressing, and firing or equipment set-ups to replicate processes for testing purposes.

  • Perform tests on raw materials and manufactured product for quality and conformance to standards.

  • May send product or materials to external testing labs.

  • Prepares and operates extensive and complex laboratory or production machinery according to guidelines, to conduct experimental programs relating to production processes and equipment.

  • With engineering, will conduct a variety of calculations to develop, document, maintain and communicate results of tests and/or analysis of technical problems identified in the production process or equipment.

  • May assist engineers in developing, building, or testing prototypes and new products, processes or procedures.

  • Will operate computer systems, using preprogrammed or self-developed software programs to document required information (raw materials, product property data, etc.) and to maintain and prepare records and reports.

  • Conduct manufacturing process tests, collects and compiles data to substantiate process changes, works with engineering to revise documents, review formulas, and Engineering Change Orders.

  • May review incoming manufacturing orders for accuracy and required manufacturing processes.

  • May observe processes and operators; provide machine operators with corrective work processes and or procedures.

  • High school diploma or general education (GED) and minimum of 5 years' experience in the specific product and materials environment.

  • Associates degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences helpful.

  • General manufacturing skills such as blueprint reading, advanced math skills (measure in standard and metrics, conversions on volumes, statistics), and computer skills are required.

  • This position requires at least 12 months' work experience to become proficient in all phases of the job and prior operator experience.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance.

  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.

  • Has to be able to tolerate moderate noise level.

  • Must be able to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and smell.
